Onmyoji Blue Daruma for Shikis or White Daruma
Introduction to Dharma Eggs
In Onmyoji, there is a special type of Shikigami called Dharma Eggs (or Daruma Eggs) that act as Enhancers for other Shikigamis. There are 4 different types of Dharma Eggs in the game: Black, White, Red, and Blue. While they can participate in battle, Dharma Eggs' main roles are to level up other Shikigamis and/or their abilities.
Black Dharma Egg
Acquisition: Event, Shop, Cleansing (low drop rate)
Black Eggs are the hardest to obtain but they are also the most useful. Besides consuming it for experience (which I do not recommend), players can use Black Eggs also randomly increase an ability level for the Shikigami. Therefore, the best way is to feed this egg to rare SSRs or SRs that are useful. After all, level up the abilities of rare Shikigamis would take too long by just fusing duplicates. Every Black Egg is essentially one SSR.
Red Dharma Egg
Acquisition: Events, Cleansing, Shop, Kirin
Red Dharmas are quite common and easy to obtain. Red eggs offer 150% more experience points as fodder compared to a normal N Shikigamis. For example, a normal N offers 4290 Exp at level 1 while a Red Dharma Egg offers 6435 Exp. In addition, experience points also increase by 150% at level up. A 2-star N fodder offers 4290 exp with an additional 343 each level up. A 2-star Red Dharma offers 6435 exp with an additional 515 each level up. However, this follows a diminishing return and there is an optimal level to use Eggs. This is shown in the chart below.
Red Dharma | |||||
Level | Exp to lvl | Acc. Exp | Fodder Exp | Inc. Exp | Inc. Diff. |
1 | – | – | 6,435 | – | – |
2 | 180 | 180 | 6,949 | 514 | 334 |
3 | 240 | 420 | 7,464 | 515 | 275 |
4 | 420 | 840 | 7,979 | 515 | 95 |
5 | 630 | 1,470 | 8,494 | 515 | (115) |
6 | 1,040 | 2,510 | 9,009 | 515 | (525) |
7 | 1,440 | 3,950 | 9,524 | 515 | (925) |
8 | 2,160 | 6,110 | 10,038 | 514 | (1,646) |
9 | 2,790 | 8,900 | 10,553 | 515 | (2,275) |
10 | 3,900 | 12,800 | 11,068 | 515 | (3,385) |
As shown, it requires 630 Exp to go from level 4 to level 5 but the gain in Exp is only 515 by leveling up. Therefore, the optimal level to consume Red Dharma is level 4. Note that awakening will not offer more Exp.
Blue Dharma
Blue Dharma is similar to Red Dharma that they are both Exp Enhancers. The difference is that Blue offers 15 times more Exp than the Red. Again, the table below shows the optimal level to use Blue Dharma as fodder:
Blue Dharma | |||||
Level | Exp to lvl | Acc. Exp | Fodder Exp | Inc. Exp | Inc. Diff. |
1 | – | – | 96,525 | – | – |
2 | 180 | 180 | 104,247 | 7,722 | 7,542 |
3 | 240 | 420 | 111,968 | 7,721 | 7,481 |
4 | 420 | 840 | 119,691 | 7,723 | 7,303 |
5 | 630 | 1,470 | 127,413 | 7,722 | 7,092 |
6 | 1,040 | 2,510 | 135,135 | 7,722 | 6,682 |
7 | 1,440 | 3,950 | 142,857 | 7,722 | 6,282 |
8 | 2,160 | 6,110 | 150,579 | 7,722 | 5,562 |
9 | 2,790 | 8,900 | 158,301 | 7,722 | 4,932 |
10 | 3,900 | 12,800 | 166,023 | 7,722 | 3,822 |
11 | 4,800 | 17,600 | 173,745 | 7,722 | 2,922 |
12 | 6,380 | 23,980 | 181,467 | 7,722 | 1,342 |
13 | 7,590 | 31,570 | 189,189 | 7,722 | 132 |
14 | 9,720 | 41,290 | 196,911 | 7,722 | (1,998) |
The optimal level to consume the Blue ones is 13. The incremental difference leveling up from 13 to 14 is -1998 Exp, which means the players are 1998 Exp points worse off by leveling up the Blue Dharma from level 13 to 14.
White Dharma
White Dharma is a great resource for late game because of its ability to level up with half as much Exp as other Shikigamis. This means that this egg can level up very fast and be used as Star up fodder for 4 -> 5 star and 5 -> 6 star, reducing a considerable amount of time to level up fodders. Consider getting one 6-star Shikigami requires 300 2-star fodder, this eggs is extremely useful.
Without White Dharmas, players would have to grind a long time for a 6-star or do rare summons for a 4-star, neither of each case is sustainable for F2P or minor spenders. In addition, this egg should be level up to 5-star to take full advantage of its potential. For players with abundant White Eggs, they are free to use for 4-stars.
Feeding this egg to each other is also discouraged because it is relatively easy to star up to at least 3-stars. Again, players have to make their own judgement.
Fodder Strategy
A common strategy to work with Dharma Eggs is to farm with the Red ones to level 4, then feed them to the Blue ones to level 13. Depending on what stage of the game the players are at, they have a choice to either feed the Blue ones to level up the main team or feed to the White Eggs to a higher star.
To see how many Red Egg is needed:
Exp Needed for Lvl 13 Blue – 31,570
Level of Red | Fodder Exp of Red | # of Red Needed | # or Red (Round up) |
1 | 6,435 | 4.91 | 5 |
2 | 6,949 | 4.54 | 5 |
3 | 7,464 | 4.23 | 5 |
4 | 7,979 | 3.96 | 4 |
As we can see, by leveling a Red to 4 before feeding it, we can save 1 Red for every level 13 Blue.
Alternatively, we can level Blue to level 12 instead. The incremental different between level 12 and 13 is only 132.
Exp Needed for Lvl 12 blue – 23980
Level of Red | Fodder Exp of Red | # of Red Needed | # or Red (Round up) |
1 | 6,435 | 3.73 | 4 |
2 | 6,949 | 3.45 | 4 |
3 | 7,464 | 3.21 | 4 |
4 | 7,979 | 3.01 | 4 |
In this case, it is better not to level up Red and feed 4 straight to Blue. I prefer this way since it's more convenient.
Recap
- Black Dharma Eggs – Don't waste resource leveling them because their role is ability enhancer not Exp enhancer. Save for SSR.
- Red Dharma Eggs – Ideally level them up to Lvl 4, but the difference is not huge.
- Blue Dharma Eggs – Ideally level them up to Lvl 13, or at least Lvl 10. Consuming them at Lvl 1 is a waste.
- White Dharma Eggs – Very useful in the grind to 6-star. I recommend at least get them to 4-star before consuming.
